Autumn can be an enchanting time of the year that many of us look forward to. Unfortunately, pumpkin spice lattes and cosy jumpers are not all this season is about; we also have to deal with weather changes, as well as changes to our daily routines, and the different ways in which these can affect our bodies, including our ears.

Are Ears Sensitive to Cold Weather?

Since ears don’t have any protective fat tissue, they can cool down quite quickly. Additionally, they have a large network of nerves which provides them with sensation, making ear canals one of the most sensitive parts of the body. This is why cold air can be especially irritating to them. Not only that, but when your ears are exposed to the cold, this can contribute to lowering of the body temperature, decreasing your blood flow, and increasing the risk of infections occurring.

Knowing this, it is safe to say that keeping your ears warm in chilly weather can save you a lot of trouble. This is when a good pair of wind shields comes in handy:

CENS wind sheild

These lovely warm wind shields wrap snuggly around your ears, keeping the cold away. Additionally, they also reduce any wind noise, preventing the wind from irritating the ear canal and causing you pain. Not only are the CENS Wind Shields incredibly comfortable and warm, but they also come in a lovely green colour to suit your personal style. Perfect for a chilly day outdoors!

Can the Cold Trigger a Tinnitus Spike?

You might not have heard about it, but it is not unusual for cold weather to worsen or escalate already existing tinnitus. It is not clear exactly why this happens, but it is believed that the lifestyle changes that come with Autumn/Winter have a lot to do with it: a higher caffeine/alcohol consumption, for example, is characteristic for many people during the colder months, and is also a common tinnitus trigger.

A more direct explanation for a potential seasonal tinnitus spike would be weather-caused congestion changing the pressure in your ears.

Regardless of the reason behind it, if a tinnitus spike occurs, it is always a good idea to have a quality product at your availability to soothe your symptoms:

Not only are these luxurious headphones perfect for relieving your tinnitus and helping you fall asleep, but they also offer easy wireless charging coupled with Bluetooth technology, allowing you to listen to your favourite audio while enjoying supreme sound quality and ultimate comfort. Not only this, but they also come with a handy travel case so that you can bring them wherever you go!

What About Hearing Aids?

Hearing aid wearers, beware! Cold temperatures can not only cause your device’s batteries to run out of power more quickly, but they also cause condensation and lead to malfunction of the hearing aids’ electronic components. Fortunately, there are products available that are great at keeping your devices safe and humidity-free:

dry and store global

Compatible with all types of hearing devices, including hearing aids, cochlear implant hardware, microphones, headpieces, and speech processors, this marvellous drying product uses heat, moving air and a desiccant to sanitise and withdraw moisture from your device. Do I Need to Protect My Hearing Outdoors?

Various seasonal outdoor activities such as sports games, hunting, or even using a leaf blower all involve high levels of noise which may affect your hearing health.

Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear, damaging cells and membranes inside. This is why it is important to use appropriate ear protection while partaking in activities that involve it:

Ideal for a night out clubbing, gigging, or enjoying a concert, the Alpine PartyPlug Earplugs provide ear protection that is both reliable and comfortable so that you can enjoy live music safely while still experiencing excellent sound quality.
